What is brickwork pointing?
Pointing is a process for fixing mortar joints between bricks or other masonry materials used in construction maintenance. When ageing mortar joints break and disintegrate, the damaged mortar is removed by hand or with a power tool and replaced with new mortar, preferably of the same composition as the original. Because damaged points are difficult to identify and nearby joints may need to be repaired, a complete wall, or even a whole building, is frequently pointed. The mortar is tooled to a smooth, concave finish and packed securely in thin layers. Tuck-pointing is a type of pointing that involves creating finely defined points for ornamental reasons.
